Narrow Gate Angus

Here at Narrow Gate Angus we are family owned and operated, located between Tulsa and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. We are a small operator dedicated to the Registered Angus breed and specifically show cattle for youth.

I began showing Angus cattle in about 1970.  I purchased a heifer calf from G.C. Richardson near Bartlesville.  I didn’t even know Mr. Richardson was on the Angus Board of Directors at the time.  This heifer was a Grand Champion at our county fair. I purchased another heifer from Mr. Richardson in 1973 (her papers and champion picture shown below) which was also Grand Champion.  In those days we did not have jackpot shows so we were limited to county, the Tri-State Fair in Coffeyville, KS and the state fairs.  I remember one day just before showing my heifer at the Tri-State Fair in Coffeyville, Mr. Richardson and his ranch manager, Dean came all the way to Coffeyville to watch me show.  Both complimented me greatly on how the heifer looked and that encounter had a huge impact on me and how I have always strived in turn to help those young men and women that have a passion for showing livestock.

Both our son, Kelsey and daughter, Kati showed Angus cattle.  Kati began showing at 9 years of age and continued through her last Junior Nationals in Louisville, KY  in 2012.  She attended the Connors State College “Be A Champ Cow Camp” at least 6 years and loved Jerry McPeak and their program!  Kati was involved in the Junior Angus programs in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Wyoming as we moved with the company I worked for.  Over the last few years we have bought cattle from Austin Land & Cattle, Express Ranches in Oklahoma, White Show Cattle in Colorado, and Ayres Angus in Oregon. 

Kati was blessed to begin her livestock judging career with Randy Pirtle as her first coach in Oklahoma.  She continued to judge livestock wherever we lived.  Kati was on the 2012 judging team at Butler Junior College in El Dorado, KS and finished her college career on the Texas A&M judging team in 2014.  Following college Kati began her career in the livestock industry at JBS where she worked in the Sales Department for a little over 3 years.  In the Fall of 2017 Kati married her fiance of 10 months, David Jacobs.  He had previously worked for the USDA (in California), Rosen Lamb Plant (Greeley), and Colorado Premium (Greeley).  In June of 2018, Kati and David relocated to Ochelata, OK to start ranching Angus Cattle with us as well as start new careers at NSP Quality Meats in Owasso, OK.  Kati is now a Project Coordinator and David is a Food Scientist.  

In 2014, we moved from Riverton, Wyoming back home near Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  I was fortunate to retire in 2015 and Kimi retired from education in 2016.  We bought a small acreage near Bartlesville and built a new home.  We work on our place daily to make it better and safer for our cattle and to share with our friends. 

The inspiration for the name Narrow Gate Angus comes from the Bible in Mathew 7:13-14.  In these verses the Lord encourages us to enter through the Narrow Gate for eternal life, not the wide gate of destruction.  This reference encourages us to live every day attempting to follow the plan our Lord has for us, to share his blessings He has given us, and to live a life pleasing to him.  We try to do that every day through our angus cattle, mission opportunities, and life! 

We keep current pictures of our show cattle for sale and those we have sold which have gone on to the show ring.  We sell a few registered Certified Angus steers for butchering.  These steers will not have had any steroids or antibiotics and will be grain feed from weaning age to termination.  Check them out!
